World-Class Theatre
John Simon of New York Magazine calls the Shaw Festival the "best repertory theatre on the continent". The
Shaw Festival remains the only theatre group celebrating the works of George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries. About a
dozen different plays are offered each year. The quality and the selection of plays will help you decide that a visit to
Niagara-on-the-Lake should be an annual event.
The flagship theatre for the Festival is The Shaw Festival Theatre. This 869-seat theatre is where
large-scale productions are presented. See 2007 Season Playbill below.
Courthouse Theatre
A national historic site dating from the 1840s, The Court House Theatre is where the Shaw Festival began in
1962. The theatre has 327 seats. See 2007 Season Playbill below
Royal George Theatre
Built as a vaudeville house to entertain the troops during World War I, The Royal George Theatre presents a
modest exterior, but inside it's all Edwardian gilt moldings, red walls and golden lions. It has 328 seats. See 2007 Season
Playbill below.
